Terms of Service

Last updated: December 2024

By using BLACKOUT ("the Service"), you agree to these terms. BLACKOUT is operated by BLACKOUT Inc. ("we", "us", "our").

TL;DR: Use the scanner responsibly. Only scan sites you own or have permission to analyze. Reports are for informational purposes — not legal advice.

The Service

BLACKOUT provides threat intelligence scanning for marketing technology stacks. Our scanner analyzes publicly accessible web pages to identify tracking vendors, behavioral patterns, and potential privacy/compliance risks.

We scan pages the same way any browser would — we don't access private data, bypass authentication, or exploit vulnerabilities.

Acceptable Use

You agree to:

  • Only scan websites you own or have explicit authorization to analyze
  • Use your legitimate work email address
  • Not use the service for competitive intelligence gathering without consent
  • Not attempt to overwhelm or abuse our scanning infrastructure
  • Not misrepresent scan results or use them to defame others

Important: We enforce domain matching (your email domain must match the URL you scan) to prevent unauthorized scanning.

Disclaimers

Not Legal Advice

Scan reports are for informational purposes only. They do not constitute legal, compliance, or professional advice. Consult qualified professionals for regulatory decisions.

No Guarantees

While we strive for accuracy, we cannot guarantee our scans will detect all vendors or identify all risks. Technology landscapes change rapidly, and detection methods have inherent limitations.

Service Availability

The service is provided "as is". We don't guarantee uptime, response times, or uninterrupted access. Some sites may block our scanner or return incomplete results.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, BLACKOUT and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages resulting from your use of the service.

This includes, but is not limited to, damages for loss of profits, data, or other intangibles, even if we've been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms. Material changes will be communicated via the service or email.
